Many of us will have heard of Floyd McClung, pioneer and leader of Youth with a Mission (YWAM), author of life changing books such as "The Father Heart of God". Floyd is now based in Cape Town, where he is helping in both planting simple churches and training up leaders to plant simple churches in a multi-cultural setting

NEW BOOK REVIEWS

JESUS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING
Paul Vieira

Giles says: Paul's life story is so exciting. Saved without any contact with church, as a teenager in Winnepeg God used him to impact thousands of young lives with the truth and power of Jesus. Enjoy!

Paul Vieira is an author and speaker, seeking to inspire believers to embrace life and reflect Jesus out in the real world. In his new book, Paul chronicles his story, his study and an honest search for an authentic expression of Christian spirituality. He has much to share about knowing the times that we live in by looking back into biblical history.

GODS ULTIMATE PASSION

Frank Viola

Giles says: In his Frank uncovers "religion" as a poor counterfeit that God rejects and gives us a  glimpse of what God is really passionate about. A Bride for his Son, a Home to live in and a Family to share eternity with.

In this groundbreaking book, Frank introduces us to three tales that furnish us with a breathtaking glimpse of God's highest passion. The first is the story of a God who is an ageless romantic driven by one consuming pursuit. The second is the tale of a God who has sought for an eternity to have a resting place—a habitation—a home. The third is the tale of a God from another realm who visits planet earth to establish a heavenly colony that will give Him visible expression. Put together, these three tales embody “God’s story.”

STARTING A HOUSE CHURCH
Larry Kreider and Floyd McClung

Giles says: I haven't read this yet but I've been told its an easy to read, inspiring and very practical book on starting and leading a simple church. So why not  be the first to find out for yourself.

Many are surprised to hear that Floyd McClung, who was previously with YWAM and then pastoring Mike Bickles church in Kansas, is now focusing primarily on training and sending out simple church planters/trainers who will go predominantly to unreached people groups around the world. He shares some of the progression in his thinking over the years which led him to this point. Based out of Kansas, USA and Cape Town, South Africa, All Nations now has teams in around 15 different nations.

THE SHAPING OF THINGS TO COME
Michael Frost

Giles says: "Small Boat Big Sea" is a great name for the church that Michael leads. Together with Alan Hirsch he introduces us to a Missional church Incarnating Christ into our world for all to see rather than hidden away in buildings. This book will challenge you, tandoori your brain and inspire your spirit . Have fun!

The book challenges the very foundations of western Christendom, especially how and why we do church. It tackles how the church has failed to impact Western culture and the radical change that it needs to go through. Michael and Allen take great effort in getting the reader to think outside the box and imagine what church could be - truly transforming society and our communities..

GOSPEL ACCORDING TO STARBUCKS
Leonard Sweet

Giles says: Maybe Starbucks should be rebranded St. Arbucks...God seems to love coffee houses. If he does, it's because real people interact there. When people come into our church communities, they should not only hear about Jesus, they should smell him, savour him, relax in his presence and enjoy being with him. Yummy

Maybe we don't base our faith on experience, but our faith has to be tasted to be believed! God is to be experienced. In his book, Leonard Sweet brews and pours out a "grande" passion for Jesus, God’s ability to use our broken lives, the goodness of creation, the importance of beauty, the way God’s Spirit calls us to participate in authentic community, how love can triumph…basic good stuff

WE CANNOT DIVIDE GOD UP

Often our language gives us away. I used to talk about going to meetings to meet with God, or praying for folk at the end of meetings as they go out into the big wide world.  It’s as if when we meet together we’re suddenly “outside the world”. Crazy isn’t it?

We even used to welcome God into our meetings, as if he was standing outside the door at the back waiting for us to invite him in. It’s His meeting, He’s already there.

Lets imagine the disciples with Jesus by Galilee saying “How about we all go up to the synagogue to meet with God”. Jesus turns to them and says, “Well, since I am God, how about we just talk here!”

The truth is He’s with us the whole time! He’s involved with us in everything we do.  There’s not a secular world and a sacred world. Its all His!

Actually I know somebody who expresses this better than me. If you get the chance, I’d recommend you listen to a series called “Unless a Seed Falls” by Michael Frost at a Christian music and Arts festival:
